I started my career at 21 and never left it. Decades of climbing the corporate ladder, managing teams, and ultimately serving clients as a consultant. I loved the clients. I loved helping people solve real problems. The industry, I outgrew. So I did the thing most people only daydream about. I traded the boardroom for forty acres in northern New Mexico.
Now I live off-grid. Solar and a battery bank for power, rainwater caught and stored for the rest. My days finally look the way I always wished they could. Lots of hiking, camping, and romping with my dogs across the high desert that couldn't care less what my title used to be.
Off-grid life taught me one thing in a hurry. I needed to be far more prepared than the city ever asked of me. When the nearest store is an hour drive and the power is your own responsibility, "being ready" stops being a concept and becomes a way of life. And the secret nobody tells you? Self-sufficiency isn't about fear. It's about freedom.
That's where Stock and Steady comes in. Shopping for my own gear, I found two kinds of stores: the ones treating preparedness like a doomsday costume party, and the ones hiding the good stuff under overpriced junk. So I built a third kind. Readiness taken seriously, without taking itself too seriously, run by someone who actually uses this stuff. Tents, long-term food, first aid, navigation, water, clothing, and the everyday tools of a self-reliant life. All gear I'd trust on my own land. Plus, I like the creature comforts that don't require you to plug in. So you'll find some of those things here as well. I'm always looking for new products to support my off grid and simple outdoorsy lifestyle.
Because preparedness isn't political, and it isn't paranoid. It's practical. The oldest common sense there is. Take care of the people who count on you. Keep a little stocked away. Face whatever comes, steady.
I left the corporate world but I never left the part I loved. Helping. Now I just get to do it in hiking boots.
Welcome. I'm glad you're here.
